Glenn Research Center hosted the 4th biennial IEEE Cognitive Communications for Aerospace Applications Workshop on June 20th – 22nd. The workshop brings together academic researchers, engineers, and technologists from industry and government agencies to present recent advancements and future interests in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, with applications toward the development of cognitive aerospace communication systems. There were 143 registrations from 20 countries. The workshop featured 6 keynote speakers and 30 presentations and papers from small businesses,  universities, and several international research organizations. Keynote presentations included talks on commercialization and cognitive networks from Philip Baldwin, the Assistant Deputy Associate Administrator for NASA Space Communications and Navigation, as well as perspectives on cognitive communications for future military space missions from Dr. (Richard) Scott Erwin, the Acting Chief Scientist, Space Vehicles Directorate for the Air Force Research Laboratory.
